  1. Publish an upgrade timetable for the SketchUp versions

Publishing an upgrade timetable for the SketchUp versions would enable us to plan a corporate (University student lab) installation of Sketchup. At present, looking ahead for maximum compatibility over the next semester with Student downloads, we install the latest version of SketchUp; however, the latest version of OpenStudio is incompatible with this version of the SketchUp program. If we knew the timetable for compatibility changes for SketchUp we could manage our installation plan for the image for 600+ computers - perhaps delaying the installation of the newer version of sketchup or waiting to finalise the image if the newer version…

  2. add and/or reorganize OSApp Library OSMs by standard

Problem: Models will often use space types from multiple building types but only one standard, which requires the user to load multiple library OSMs then find the objects for the specific standard (e.g. 90.1-2007).

Rationale: It would be easier to instead load a library OSM that had all the objects for a specific standard.

Solution: Add and/or reorganize the building type OSM library by standard.

    Pros and Cons of Solution:
+ may be easier for users
    - may be obsolete if OS deprecates the use of File > Load Library

  4. Add ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water to OpenStudio

Please implement ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water (new to EnergyPlus 8.6) into OpenStudio. This object approximates a chilled sail or chilled ceiling panel, a technology that is becoming increasingly common in commercial buildings.

  5. Built-In Air-Cooled Chiller Curve Incorrect

At some point in recent versions, an air-cooled chiller object was built into the HVAC library. The issue is, one of the curves that's attached to that chiller causes the energy usage of the chiller to increase as the load on the chiller decreases. Seems like someone must have just grabbed the wrong curve when making that change.

I don't think it's important specifically what curve is used, but the curve should at least be representative of the general behavior of a chiller. I'm attaching a chart comparing the value of this curve to a couple of other standard curves.…

  7. Improve drag and drop response time in OpenStudio

When dragging and dropping model or library elements into an OpenStudio section (e.g. dropping a thermal zone into an air loop), the app takes several seconds to register before it allows further input. It makes the App annoying to use at times. Faster response (<0.25s) would improve usability.

  8. Allow quick access to failed runs on OpenStudio Cloud Console

On the cloud console, it would be useful to be able to look at all failed runs as opposed to having to hunt for them among all completed simulations.

  9. Add SwimmingPool:Indoor to OpenStudio App

Add the EnergyPlus SwimmingPool:Indoor object into the OpenStudio Application to allows users to more accurately model indoor pool loads including humidification.

  10. Support for baseline compliance models

Problem: Performance energy models for code compliance or rating programs (T24 CBECC-COM, 90.1, LEED), require specific model inputs for a baseline and proposed model. Other simulation software on the market is able to build these baseline models, and generate standard compliance reports. Often, these simulation softwares are selected for projects, not because they are nicer to work with or have greater modeling capability, but simply because the can generate a baseline model and report with all the embedded rules. OpenStudio/EnergyPlus would get much greater adoption if it could provide this functionality.

Solution: Add a component to the OS App to…

  11. Custom zone and space grouping

Problem: mass applying schedules, thermostats, space types, etc. to spaces and thermal zones requires selecting individual zones or using a regular expression filter using a measure. This can be time intensive, or require naming spaces/zones to match a filter.

Solution: Allow creating custom zone or space groups, so one can mass apply schedules or objects to members of that group. Zones or spaces could be part of multiple groups.

  12. Zone list suport

Zone lists are very useful instruments in E+. Would be great to see that OS supports their import and uses to assign similar characteristics in exported IDF as well (as sometimes we need to process them further out of OS)

  13. Improve grid views performance for big models

Working with real models with 400+ spaces and 4000+ surfaces would be really helpful from grid views. Surprisingly, they are very slow with such size. More filters could be useful as well

  14. Support for steam and steam-to-HW systems

Steam is common in commercial and university campuses. Currently OS users have to use HW boilers/systems to approximate steam systems, which isn't accurate and reduces confidence in the energy model.

  15. 32 bits Linux version

Problem: Installation on 32 bits Linux computer not possible (no package available)

Solution: Publish a Linux package for 32 bits computers

Context: I need to install OpenStudio on an old computer running Linux. Buying a new computer is unfortunately not an option.. So it would be nice to also have a 32 bits package for the Linux version of OpenStudio.

  16. Move measures in PAT from "always run" to "measure group" and vice versa

Problem: right now you can't move a measure from the "Always Run" group to the "Measure Group" and vice versa. I might have loaded a model with all the measures I'll eventually need, but I might want to create design alternatives by adding them one at a time to see the incremental savings. Currently I have to delete them and recreate them in the "Measure group" which is time consuming and annoying.

    Solution: make it switchable.

  17. Allow reordering design alternatives

Problem: Right now you can't reorder the design alternatives, which would be a nice feature in order to have a table that makes sense in the end. This is especially true when you have a lot of design alternatives and click "Create one for each" and end up with a lot of things that might actually not be in the right order.

    Solution: allow reordering

  18. Make airLoopHVAC.clone work

AirLoopHVAC has a `clone` method, but it does not clone components, and can also cause segmentation fault errors when you try to, e.g. addBranchForZone to a "cloned" air loop. T

A fully-featured system clone would be really helpful for system libraries.

  19. Sort plant/air loops alphabetically in the OS Interface

Problem: it is frustrating/time-consuming to find a particular loop in the dropdown, becoming more difficult as the model becomes larger (with more loops)

Solution: sort them numerically then alphabetically, each time a new loop is added to the model

  20. Allow editing multiple elements of same type withinin SketchUp plugin

Currently if you select two of any model element (two spaces, two subsurfaces, etc) the Inspector tool reverts to the OS:Building view and you are not able to edit properties specific to the element type in your selection.

I propose the plugin include a check to see whether all elements in the selection are of the same type, and if they are then allow the Inspector tool to be used to edit the properties of that element type. It would be very valuable, for instance, to be able to select a group of spaces or zone and modify a property…
