  1. Create Field for Qualitative Narrative

It would be amazing if OpenStudio had a place to enter a running narrative about a given model.

Often, models go through multiple iterations, several hands, and years of lapsed time through the life of a project. To have a field for qualitative data input would be so great as it would create a place for institutional memory that carries with the model.

  2. Add a download all button in PAT either locally or on the server

When running large scale analyses in PAT on the AWS, there is a limit to how many of the files can be downloaded(~200 datapoints). The addition of a download all button or even a batch download where you can select a large group(~500-2000) would be useful. This would allow for the user to have access to all the OSM files and reports.

  3. Install Switches for Remote Deployment

I work in an office where I have to service a lot of employees.
We use a program called Prism Deploy, to remotely install most of our software.
A lot of the time, an .exe or .msi will have install switches.
I then make a .bat file to run the .exe with the appropriate silent install switches.
This makes deploying software easier for the company, and the end user.

If there was an option to download an .msi that would be great.

  4. Implement all AvailabilityManagers in OpenStudio

OpenStudio is missing a bunch of AvailabilityManagers:

    Implemented:

    AvailabilityManager:DifferentialThermostat
    AvailabilityManager:HybridVentilation
    AvailabilityManager:NightCycle
    AvailabilityManager:NightVentilation
    AvailabilityManager:OptimumStart

    Missing:

    AvailabilityManager:HighTemperatureTurnOff
    AvailabilityManager:HighTemperatureTurnOn
    AvailabilityManager:LowTemperatureTurnOff
    AvailabilityManager:LowTemperatureTurnOn
    AvailabilityManager:Scheduled
    AvailabilityManager:ScheduledOff
    AvailabilityManager:ScheduledOn

  5. Allow user to edit input fields for Ideal Loads Air System

Ideal Air Loads is a powerful design tool to determine appropriate sensible and latent capacities to apply when simulating a system with defined energy model components. In the OS App, there is a check box to "Turn On Ideal Air Loads" for each Thermal Zone. After clicking this box, the respective ZoneHVAC:IdealLoadsAirSystem EnergyPlus object is created. However, all input fields for this object are left to the EnergyPlus defaults defined in the EnergyPlus IDD. This can be very limiting, such as when a user wants to apply Ideal Air Loads for humidification and dehumidification RH setpoints. Default dehumidification control is…

  6. PAT for Ubuntu

If you want to take advantage of the multicore feature of the Radiance measure (Linux) AND use the PAT (Windows and Mac), that's not possible now because there's no common platform.

It is possible if you set up a Linux server but that can be a daunting task.

Not pushing for Radiance multicore capability on Windows because Linux has other (speed) advantages and for users like me who do thousands of runs, shaving speed everywhere you can is very desirable.

  7. add ChillerConstantCOP to API and/or GUI

The ChillerConstantCOP object is useful for early design when part load performance is unknown and for LEED projects using district energy that fall under the DES Guidance.

Unlike the boiler models, the currently available ChillerElectricEIR object cannot be forced to have a constant COP by adjusting the curve coefficients.

  8. The application runtime, especially when opening the surfaces or subsurfaces tab, as well as the Sketchup plugin is really slow

The application runtime, especially when opening the surfaces or subsurfaces tab, as well as the Sketchup plugin is really slow. Working with bigger models is currently impossible. A general speedup of the user interface would be a really great improvement.

  9. Allow gem use in CLI

Allow use of gems in CLI and OS Server. Should be able to specify a gemfile or something to control which gems are used for a given workflow, maybe allow measures to specify their own gems and then bundle at the OSW level.

  10. Documentation

Website tab for documentation is not up to date. Link to users guide or something that is updated frequently. Need to know if we can now create geometry, generate Title 24 and LEED documentation, to name a few items

  11. Fully support Python bindings

Python has a more developed set of scientific libraries than Ruby. Fully supporting the Python bindings and including them with the OpenStudio installation would allow the use of these libraries with the API.

  12. Publish an upgrade timetable for the SketchUp versions

Publishing an upgrade timetable for the SketchUp versions would enable us to plan a corporate (University student lab) installation of Sketchup. At present, looking ahead for maximum compatibility over the next semester with Student downloads, we install the latest version of SketchUp; however, the latest version of OpenStudio is incompatible with this version of the SketchUp program. If we knew the timetable for compatibility changes for SketchUp we could manage our installation plan for the image for 600+ computers - perhaps delaying the installation of the newer version of sketchup or waiting to finalise the image if the newer version…

  13. add and/or reorganize OSApp Library OSMs by standard

Problem: Models will often use space types from multiple building types but only one standard, which requires the user to load multiple library OSMs then find the objects for the specific standard (e.g. 90.1-2007).

Rationale: It would be easier to instead load a library OSM that had all the objects for a specific standard.

Solution: Add and/or reorganize the building type OSM library by standard.

    Pros and Cons of Solution:
+ may be easier for users
    - may be obsolete if OS deprecates the use of File > Load Library

  15. Add ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water to OpenStudio

Please implement ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water (new to EnergyPlus 8.6) into OpenStudio. This object approximates a chilled sail or chilled ceiling panel, a technology that is becoming increasingly common in commercial buildings.

  16. Built-In Air-Cooled Chiller Curve Incorrect

At some point in recent versions, an air-cooled chiller object was built into the HVAC library. The issue is, one of the curves that's attached to that chiller causes the energy usage of the chiller to increase as the load on the chiller decreases. Seems like someone must have just grabbed the wrong curve when making that change.

I don't think it's important specifically what curve is used, but the curve should at least be representative of the general behavior of a chiller. I'm attaching a chart comparing the value of this curve to a couple of other standard curves.…

  18. Improve drag and drop response time in OpenStudio

When dragging and dropping model or library elements into an OpenStudio section (e.g. dropping a thermal zone into an air loop), the app takes several seconds to register before it allows further input. It makes the App annoying to use at times. Faster response (<0.25s) would improve usability.

  19. Allow quick access to failed runs on OpenStudio Cloud Console

On the cloud console, it would be useful to be able to look at all failed runs as opposed to having to hunt for them among all completed simulations.
