  1. Provide Heat Recovery Chiller Functionality in OpenStudio

Problem: Currently there is no feasible way to model a heat recovery chiller or heat pump chiller that transfers energy from a cooling plant loop to a heating plant loop in OpenStudio.

Rationale: Heat recovery chillers or heat pump chillers are an increasingly common component in commercial buildings. Building performance professionals are routinely asked to evaluate this technology as a design alternative. This functionality exists in EnergyPlus but has been limited by OpenStudio.

Solution: Provide full functionality of EnergyPlus object Chiller:Electric:EIR in OpenStudio Application or OpenStudio API. This object already exists in OpenStudio but heat recovery functionality is not available.…

  2. CSV export from OpenStudio

Problem: There is no convenient means to get at standard data formats for time-series data.

Solution: Implement CSV export via an html measure which shows the data in tabular form with link to download the raw CSV.

    Context: ported from GitHub: https://github.com/NREL/OpenStudio/issues/1375

  3. Support for steam and steam-to-HW systems

Steam is common in commercial and university campuses. Currently OS users have to use HW boilers/systems to approximate steam systems, which isn't accurate and reduces confidence in the energy model.

  4. Add ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water to OpenStudio

Please implement ZoneHVAC:CoolingPanel:RadiantConvective:Water (new to EnergyPlus 8.6) into OpenStudio. This object approximates a chilled sail or chilled ceiling panel, a technology that is becoming increasingly common in commercial buildings.

  5. Support all fields needed for thermal comfort studies

Problem: Thermal comfort studies cannot be fully performed due to lack of access to all fields in the underlying EnergyPlus objects

Solution: Support access to all fields of thermal comfort objects for OpenStudio users

  6. Make Water Use Equipment part of space type and allow area and person weighted inputs

Problem: Water use equipment is not part of space types and is, thus, hard to specify.

Rationale: Space types won't really be complete until we add this. It will make work easier on a lot of people to not have to add service water heating outside of space types. I have found through testing that if it is in the model and just not hooked up to a water system, that EnergyPlus runs fine, much like a space having a thermostat with no system serving it.

Solution: Make Water Use Equipment part of space type and allow area and person…

  11. Fully support Python bindings

Python has a more developed set of scientific libraries than Ruby. Fully supporting the Python bindings and including them with the OpenStudio installation would allow the use of these libraries with the API.

  12. Add minValue() and maxValue() to OpenStudio::TimeSeries

OpenStudio::TimeSeries already has integrate() and averageValue(). minValue() and maxValue() would also be helpful. Would be even more helpful if these four functions could be implemented over DateTime ranges in addition to over the whole series.
